Darcy Pennington is an average thirteen-year-old girl, if “average” means being miserable all the time. She struggles to make friends, suffers from crushing social anxiety, and doesn’t feel like she fits in anywhere.
Maybe that’s because she’s not supposed to fit in—not in the world she was born into, at least.
Dragged to a strange summer camp against her will, Darcy finds that all her feelings of unrest are pointing her through a magic gateway into a parallel world beyond her wildest imaginings. But to discover her purpose there, she must convince a group of five other teenagers to follow her through the gateway, chasing destinies and facing down a dark power they never knew existed. Darcy and the others are about to discover that what seems unremarkable about who they are in one world just might mean the salvation of another.
